The General Students’ Committee (Der Allgemeine Studierendenausschuss, AStA)

The AStA is the administrative organ of the student body. Here, the decisions of the StuPa (student parliament) are implemented, the budget is drawn up and administered, representation vis-à-vis the university, the ministry and other organizations and associations takes place, as well as work in various Referate (divisions of AStA) on numerous topics. Additionally, AStA works together with other student bodies of different universities at the federal state and national level, for example, through the Landes-ASten-Treffen (the AStA state meeting, or LAT) or in the freien zusammenschluß von studentlnnenschaften (free association of student unions, or fzs). AStA also organizes informational events, parties, and, if necessary, demonstrations and protests.

Responsibility for AStA activities is held by a three-person governing committee, which is, as mentioned, elected by the StuPa. The term of office is one year. The StuPa only confirms the heads of the AStA Referate. Some of the Referate have open consultation hours; these can be found here. For the most part, this includes BaföG, social, and legal advice in student matters. For further questions on other topics, other information or for those in need of an international student ID, please contact Petra Zielonka (AStA secretary). The best way to contact the members of AStA is at the weekly meetings, which are generally open to the public.

AStA meetings: Wednesdays at 2:15 p.m., Interaktion 1, 33619 Bielefeld, 2nd floor, room A235
